David Lawrence Stanson

Died Dec. 18, 2011

David Lawrence Stanson, 67, of Athens, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at his home surrounded by family.  Born April 18, 1944, in Athens, he was the son of Mary Camille Stanson and the late Victor Jon Stanson. Dave was a lifelong Athens resident, always helping out anywhere he could.  He was actively involved in Campus Crusade for Christ, and also helped start the Athens Christian School.  Dave donated over 25 gallons of blood to the Red Cross and also volunteered with the organization.  He was a real estate owner/operator for multiple investment properties and rentals in Athens.  Dave served with the United States Marine Corps as a court reporter in both Vietnam and Japan. He enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, traveling, and meeting new people whenever he could.  Dave is survived by brothers Victor (Lorraine) Stanson, John (Karen) Stanson, and sister Camille (Tim) McCoy; his beloved nieces and nephews, Darin Stanson, Eric Stanson, Tricia Stanson, Jennifer Stanson, Carolyn Hopkins, Cheryl Stanson, Tyler Wallace, and Jennifer Turek; and six grandnieces and nephews; and his uncle Clarence Cash and aunt Betty Wiseman. He will truly be missed by all who knew him and his unconditional love. Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home on December 22. A funeral service will follow, starting at 1 p.m., led by Denver Dodrill. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens where a military service will be conducted by the Athens American Legion, the Athens VFW and the Albany VFW.
