Sonia Beth (Nanna) Grant
February 20, 1944 ~ September 16, 2023 (age 79)
Sonia Beth Nanna Grant, 79, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023 at her residence. Her devoted husband of 43 years, Michael Grant, survives. She was born February 20, 1944 in Athens, Ohio, daughter of the late Max Nanna and Beatrice Sanders Nanna. She received her RN from Bethesda School of Nursing, her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Ohio University, her Master of Science from Wright State University, and her Nurse Practitioner Certification from Otterbein University.
Over the years, Sonia’s love of helping others was shown through her work as a registered nurse at several different hospitals, and her long career as a Professor of Nursing at Southern State Community College in Hillsboro. Sonia’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, friends, and much-loved family dogs, Benji, Taggie, and Fannie. She loved gardening, traveling, and (mostly) enjoyed watching Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals games, and NASCAR races. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and greatly enjoyed working with her sorority sisters on many community projects.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Jessica (Timothy) Morse of Amesbury, Massachusetts; her son, Jason E. (Amy) Miller of Wilmington, Ohio; and beloved granddaughter, Chloe Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Karen (Darrel) Arnold of Athens, Ohio; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Rick (Dallas) Grant and Greg Grant; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, a brother, Ron Danes, is preceded in death.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Friday, September 22, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. A funeral service with Rick Grant officiating, will begin at 11:00 AM, Friday. Burial will follow Sugar Grove Cemetery.
